Description: At a spring 2012 meeting, the CRV steering committee generated a list of economic, social, and ecological assets in Ventura County that could be affected by sea level rise. Some of these assets were specific locations or structures that could be easily photographed, such as “the Ventura Promenade.” Others were broad subjects, such as “industry”and “bird-watching.”The latter subjects were researched and identified by looking for relevant locations within the flooding zones. A Word document entitled “TNC CRV summer 2012 photo subjects”summarizes all these photo subjects and distinguishes between stakeholder-identified subjects and ones researched and identified by the photographer.

Description: U.S. ZIP Code Areas (Five-Digit) represents five-digit ZIP Code areas used by the U.S. Postal Service to deliver mail more effectively. The first digit of a five-digit ZIP Code divides the United States into 10 large groups of states numbered from 0 in the Northeast to 9 in the far West. Within these areas, each state is divided into an average of 10 smaller geographical areas, identified by the second and third digits. These digits, in conjunction with the first digit, represent a sectional center facility or a mail processing facility area. The fourth and fifth digits identify a post office, station, branch or local delivery area.

Information from original NWI metadata:"This data set represents the extent, approximate location and type of wetlands and deepwater habitats in the conterminous United States. These data delineate the areal extent of wetlands and surface waters as defined by Cowardin et al. (1979). Certain wetland habitats are excluded from the National mapping program because of the limitations of aerial imagery as the primary data source used to detect wetlands. These habitats include seagrasses or submerged aquatic vegetation that are found in the intertidal and subtidal zones of estuaries and near shore coastal waters. Some deepwater reef communities (coral or tuberficid worm reefs) have also been excluded from the inventory. These habitats, because of their depth, go undetected by aerial imagery. By policy, the Service also excludes certain types of "farmed wetlands" as may be defined by the Food Security Act or that do not coincide with the Cowardin et al. definition. They form topical overlays to the U.S. Geological Survey 1:24,000 or 1:25,000 scale topographic quadrangles. Note that coastline delineations were drawn to follow the extent of wetland or deepwater features as described by this project and may not match the coastline shown in other base maps.Any use of trade, product, or firm names is for descriptive purposes only and does not imply endorsement by the U.S. Government.Although this Federal Geographic Data Committee-compliant metadata file is intended to document the data set in nonproprietary form, as well as in Arc/INFO format, this metadata file may include some Arc/INFO-specific terminology."

Description: This GIS layer depicts the boundary of the Oxnard Forebay Groundwater Basin. The Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board has determined that septic system discharges are a major source of contamination in the Oxnard Forebay watershed. The Water Board adopted a resolution which prohibits new or expanded septic systems in the Oxnard Forebay. The resolution also requires that septic system discharges cease by January 1, 2008. The Environmental Health Division will no longer issue permits to install new septic systems or expand existing septic systems in the Oxnard Forebay. The Ventura County Public Works Agency will manage a sewer district (CSA 34) for the El Rio area and the construction of sewers is expected to be completed by 2008. This dataset was created for the Ventura County Planning Division. Parcels located within the Oxnard Forebay boundary are subject to the LARWQCB resolution that prohibits new or expanded septic systems.

Description: This layer contains the boundary of subsidence in Ventura County. Subsidence is any setting or sinking of the ground surface over a regional area arising from surface or subsurface causes, such as groundwater and/or oil extraction and earthquakes. A very significant area in Ventura County, the Oxnard Plain, is experiencing subsidence. The damaged caused by subsidence is generally not of an inmediate or violent nature. Except when prompted by seismic shaking, the compaction of alluvium and settling of the land surface is a process that occurs over several tens to thousands of years and over a large area. Created for mapping purposes, to show the boundary of subsidence in Ventura County. Subsidence is an element of the Hazards Appendix, Figure 2.8, which shows the limits of the subsidence zones.
