Layer: Subsidence (ID: 58)

Parent Layer: Natural

Name: Subsidence

Display Field: subsidence

Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: This layer contains the boundary of subsidence in Ventura County. Subsidence is any setting or sinking of the ground surface over a regional area arising from surface or subsurface causes, such as groundwater and/or oil extraction and earthquakes. A very significant area in Ventura County, the Oxnard Plain, is experiencing subsidence. The damaged caused by subsidence is generally not of an inmediate or violent nature. Except when prompted by seismic shaking, the compaction of alluvium and settling of the land surface is a process that occurs over several tens to thousands of years and over a large area. Created for mapping purposes, to show the boundary of subsidence in Ventura County. Subsidence is an element of the Hazards Appendix, Figure 2.8, which shows the limits of the subsidence zones. <a href='http://www.ventura.org/rma/operations/gis/'target='_blank'>Ventura County GIS
<a href='xml/ventura_Subsidence.xml'target='_blank'>Metadata
