Description: Task 5: GIS Analysis to Inform Fish Objective 2 (Suitable Chinook Habitat) and 6 (Marsh Habitat Diversity)
Using the XYZ coordinates from the “with-project” model surface from PNNL, TNC will determine the elevational profile of each project concept polygon. The XYZ coordinates of the “with-project” model surface will be used to create a raster file of the ground surface. [It is understood that this method will smooth the ground surface to some degree, but is preferred because it provides a surface with the old river- or bay-front dike or levee removed.] The project polygons will be overlaid on this surface and a 100-foot wide buffer, representing the footprint of a new setback levee/dike, will be removed along the landward edges of each project polygon where setback levees are needed. The attached file indicates which project polygons contain setback dikes or levees and along which edges of the project the dikes/levees are located. The remaining areas (excluding setback levee/dike footprints) within each polygon surface will then be broken down into 1-foot bins. For each project concept, less any setback dike or levee footprint, TNC will determine the number of acres that is represented by each 1-foot elevational range.
Data sources:
• XYZ coordinates of model surface nodes from PNNL for “with-project” conditions.
• Project concept polygons (as used for previous analyses).
Deliverables: 1. A table that contains the number of acres within each 1-foot elevational bin within each project concept, less the area encompassed by a setback levee or dike.
2. A georeferenced map showing the plan view distribution of 1-foot elevational bins for each project concept.
