Description: Upland areas within the watershed that are suitable for restoration with nature based solutions. Restoration suitability takes into account the current need for restoration, feasibility based on physical and management characteristics, and opportunity to address equity through restoration projects. Degradation: SWMI subbasins net groundwater depletion categories 4 &5, building footprints greater that 1 acre in size, and impervious surfaces within highly polluting land uses (commercial, industrial, high-density residential) Feasibility: NRCS soils with high infiltration rates (types A& B. Unknown soil types were also included, in order to include urbanized areas in the city of Boston). Opportunity: Environmental justice communities as defined by the U.S. EPA based on 2010 Census data, and “greenspace deserts” – places greater than .25 miles from protected open space Certain areas were excluded from consideration for restoration. These were: • Activity/Use Limitation (AUL) sites, 21 (e) sites, and underground storage tanks as identified on MassGIS in 2016 with 200’ buffer • Areas classified as forested in the 2005 Massachusetts Land Use Dataset • Wellhead Protection Zone I and Zone II areas as identified on MassGIS in 2016
